Brief
Idler builds reinforcement-learning environments and long-horizon evals that push frontier coding models past what any benchmark suite reaches. They sell into the labs training those models.
Approach
Strategy first, then a system to carry it. The spine is process: how an environment gets sourced, verified, and graded. That is what a researcher checks before trusting any of it. Grading is pass or fail, never a dense reward signal, and training and eval stay separate tiers. The register is light and exact, against a category that defaults to dark and edge-lit.
The mark is the Shell, Idler's model of an environment: a closed structure agents move through and are judged inside. Look down its body diagonal and it flattens to a hexagon of three rhombi, the three near edges meeting in a Y. Neither is drawn. Both fall out of the geometry, so the mark is the space between the faces rather than a line laid over them.
Under it sits a closed vocabulary. The primitive is a substance, so the category is Matter: three forms, two states, solid or opened. Six units, and no seventh. A seventh would have to declare what it was made of, and there is nothing left to declare. Everything downstream is those six at different densities.
Outcome
A brand system and a launch worldsite, live at idler.ai. Two weeks for the first sprint, a second for launch collateral and the site expansion.
An application kit covers the surfaces the product actually needs: leaderboards, task cards, metric switchers, progress with confidence intervals, the five run states. The rest of the documentation is a working reference, with mark files at every lockup and tile, color and grayscale on live tokens, and the motion turns named frame by frame.
The references are published alongside it. Mohr and LeWitt exhaust the cube as a finite alphabet; Gerstner designs the program that makes the posters. Molnár holds disorder under control. The Ben-Day screen carries tone through density, one mark at one size, which is the whole argument for the halftone read. Aicher runs an entire sign system off a single grid. Turrell occludes the source until the structure appears. A beetle's shell is iridescent from its geometry, with no pigment in it.
